In the conversation, Caiani describes Europe’s radical right as a “social movement” made up of inter-linked parties, associations and online communities. She argues its appeal has grown as these actors re-brand themselves from anti-system outsiders to “nationalist pro-Europeans,” broaden their agenda beyond xenophobia and nationalism to gender, socio-economic and even environmental issues, and share tactics across borders via events such as CPAC.
